Phlebotomy Training And Certification Guide

By Dan Rathers

Are you interested in a career as a phlebotomist? Are you a nurse or doctor who wants to list phlebotomy in your repertoire of skills? Most states don't require certification for phlebotomists (California and Louisiana are exceptions), but employers often do. Whether you want to establish your skills for a prospective employer or simply make your skills more marketable and improve your salary, phlebotomy certification will greatly increase your value as a medical professional. There are many different places at which you can train and many agencies that will be happy to certify your skills.

A phlebotomy technician is a healthcare professional that is responsible for drawing blood from patients and preparing it for further medical testing. Phlebotomy technicians are primarily stationed in doctor's offices or hospitals, and will routinely work directly with patients and families. Because some patients have a fear of needles or blood, it is important for the technician to develop a sense of confidence and trust with the patient. Some states require a technician to be licensed or registered, while others do not. Because of the nature of the job, excellent communication skills are required to thoroughly explain procedures to patients.

There are a couple of things to think about before applying for phlebotomy certification. Do you want to take the class at your local community college or would you benefit by taking an online phlebotomy certificate program? It is important to note that taking the course online will require a specified amount of hands-on training also. You also need to decide which organization you will apply to receive your phlebotomy certification. You have a choice of the ASCP, ASPT, and NPA. Depending upon what field you want to work in, will determine the type of certification you will need to get.

The Phlebotomy Technician certification program is designed to teach entry level phlebotomy skills to students interested in pursuing a career in Phlebotomy. This 80 contact hour program includes comprehensive curriculum that will prepare the novice Phlebotomy student for the ethical, theoretical and technical knowledge required to become a competent Phlebotomist. Students will complete lectures and hands-on training in the clinical laboratory setting using Phlebotomy simulation models and specialized training equipment. Satisfactory completion of both the classroom and laboratory portions of the course is required. Upon satisfactory completion of the course, the student will be eligible to take the National Health Career Association (NHA) Certification Exam.

After training, you will have the option to take the National Certification Exam. The cost for this test is $105 and is CURRENTLY included in your tuition under our New Year Special When you are ready to take your certification exam, you will need to fill out the exam application and pay the exam application fee. We will provide you with the exam application and assist you with filling it out properly. We can also register you for the exam if you prefer. We are an NHA accredited test site. You will have the option to test with us!

After the coursework has been completed, the student may sit for the Phlebotomy certification exam. This exam is given by a nationally recognized association in the field of medicine. The exam includes a written test where the students are tested on their theoretical knowledge of Phlebotomy and proper procedures used by a Phlebotomist. A student may also be required to take part in 200 hours of clinical training as a Phlebotomist including 100 venipunctures. Before a hospital takes you on full time, it may request that you participate in on the job training for several days.

Children who go through such experiences end up being neglected and mistreated. A condition like cerebral palsy leaves the child without proper coordination of muscles and movement becomes a nightmare. If not checked, even death is a possible result. Spineone Patient Review

By Jerome J Hoffman Jerome Hoffman was a patient at SpineOne in Denver, CO. He was violently rear-ended in an automobile accident in 2012 and needed help for acute back and neck pain. The treatment plan devised by the physician that Jerome saw included three main areas - muscle relaxer medicine, PT work done at the SpineOne Rehab Center, and 3 minimally invasive injections that were intended to "kick-start" the healing process - the injections had both steroids to assist in healing and an anesthesia to help with the pain. It took Jerome 2 months before he was feeling confident about the strength of his back and neck. After 4 months, he discontinued the medication and finished the last of the 3 targeted injections. He went to physical Therapy 2-3 times a week, where the focus was strengthening his core and teaching him how to do exercises on his own. The Physical therapist that he worked with was diligent about making sure that Jerome did his "homework" eve...
