Many aspiring pharmacy technicians are very much interested with this career because of its promise of good financial rewards, but this can only be attainable if you would work hard to help yourself become more competitive and proficient in performing your duties and responsibilities. To make the most out of your pharmacy technician salary, you will have to focus on improving your credentials.

Based on the figures taken from the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), a pharmacy technician earns an average of $14.10 on an hourly basis and $29,300 on an annual basis. Those who wish to pursue higher pharmacy technician salary should probably seek employment in the Federal Executive Branch, Colleges and Universities, and Technical Consultation Services.

You will have a better chance of getting a higher pharmacy technician salary if you have already been given certification by either the Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ICPT) or the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). You also have a better chance of getting hired in upscale companies if you are certified by either these two credentialing bodies.

Educational attainment can also have a significant influence on the pharmacy technician salary figures. Although there is not standard training requirements for pharmacy techs, there are institutions which offer formal training programs such as vocational schools, community colleges, and hospitals. Formal training can be as short as 6 months and as long as 2 years.

As with other careers, pharmacy technician salary can also improve with additional training and work experience. And although there is not much room for advancement for pharmacy techs, they can still be given supervisory or specialty positions. Some pharmacy techs may also choose to pursue a higher level of training in order to become a licensed pharmacist.

Another great way of getting a higher pharmacy technician salary is to find employment in big pharmaceutical firms or companies. Of course this still requires that you have the best credentials possible in order to be qualified for the best employment opportunities. Continuing education and getting recertified every 2 years will also help keep you updated with the latest developments in the pharmacy tech career and therefore make you more competitive and proficient as well.
